Job Description:

Ian, Evan & Alexander Corporation (IEA) is in search of a Database Analyst to support the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, Energy, Installations & Environment (OASD EI&E) in Alexandria, VA.

The Database Analyst will support the development, maintenance and operation of the SQL databases that perform regularly scheduled data analytics processes for reporting purposes and ad hoc data requests. This will be accomplished utilizing commercially available software capabilities (such as those specifically outlined in the Required Skills) as well as government developed applications and platforms. Execute tasks requiring the development of forward looking analytics and the production of informational materials suitable for executive level decision making.

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems Management / Business Management with an emphasis on Information Technology or other related discipline.
  • 7 years’ experience in technical and analytical skills.
  • Skilled in developing, maintaining and operating relational databases, SQL Server preferred. Must understand and be able to execute extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) data, the ETL processes, in particular to support the generation of an annual federally mandated report.
  • Must have excellent SQL skills.
  • Proficient with the operation of commercially available .xml formatting software to create products for web-based data submissions.
  • Proficient in the technical operation and manipulation of data within MS Access, and MS Excel.
  • Understanding of data warehousing processes and knowledge of web services used to update these libraries, with the ability to communicate these requirements to programmers for execution.
  • Must be familiar with requirement gathering processes and possess strong written and oral communication skills to be able to clearly articulate and anticipate results of database design, and data queries within the above mentioned applications.
  • Active Secret security clearance.

Desired Skill Set:

  • Capability to build and deploy small tools to allow for user maintenance of lookup tables and business rules.
  • Proficient in using and managing business rule based engines and databases such as Microsoft Master Database Services (MDS)
  • Experience in generating reports identifying information gaps and tracking data trends.
  • Experience in building, designing, and editing reports using a range of Business Intelligence (BI) applications.
  • Experience in compiling user manuals and providing user training.
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel, to include complex equations and calculations, and creating graphs and charts is a plus.
  • Proficient in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) is a plus.
  • Experience in dealing with Federal real property portfolios and the data associated with the management of real property assets through a complete lifecycle process is a plus.
  • An understanding of the Department of Defense (DoD) and its organizational structure is a plus.
